There is one issue, every party guest in this times is faced with: Are you owning or renting your apartment in the city? And if you do renting, are you planning to buy NOW? And this is a good question! I also faced this question the last Cocktail Party me and my husband were invited to. It was the housewarming party of a couple that bought their super stylish apartment in Mitte. I was quite not sure what to answer. We have always discussed about this questions but it was never that present as it is now.
When
the grandmother of my husband passed a year ago, she not just left
her own flat in the big house. She also left three nice flats in
southern France. So the thought of my mother in law, to sell
everything and buy something new like a nice flat with direct access
to the beach or a house in south Africa is not that far as I thought
for me.
After
three years in Berlin, the prices are still okay, but facing the
future, they will explode. I never liked Berlin that much, but with
great friends and the transformation from Berlin into a nice and
stylish city it becomes more and more attractive to buy for your own.
That's exactly the same thought, that a good friend of mine and his
boyfriend had. My former roommate and his boyfriend are together for
a year and something, My husband and I are together for around four
years and we're still renting. I was shocked, but very impressed and
I felt that this would be a topic which I have to discuss with my
husband. I felt like everyone is buying now ...
Then
suddenly we saw the new super chic house, built up on the side of the
S-Bahn trace in style of the houses in Tel- Aviv. It's directly
around the corner from our current flat, in the middle of Schöneberg
a place in Berlin that becomes more popular and more hip than it was
before. I was overwhelmed by the house, it was like my “Barbie
Dreamhouse” but completely sold. Not one single flat left. And
imagine, nearly every owner up from the third floor can see the
Fernsehturm and the Berlin skyline. I was so sad but we
thought it might be a good idea and time to search for our very own
home. Buy the beagle and live in Berlin, the City that went from the
amorphous nothing to a desirable destination. Not our last, but a
somehow special one.
So
next time we're invited to a cocktail party my answer to question
would be: Actually we're on the hunt for our dream apartment. And
you?
